Prof Ruth Appeltant

Since 2022, Ruth Appeltant has worked at the University of Antwerp as a professor and is developing in vitro gametogenesis based on oogonial and induced pluripotent stem cells to fight infertility in human and animals.

As a veterinarian, Ruth Appeltant obtained a PhD on in vitro embryo production in the pig in Belgium. Afterwards she improved the efficacy of immature oocyte vitrification and contributed to a cryopreservation protocol that can store female germplasm under field conditions in Japan. At the University of Liège in Belgium, she worked on livestock genomics. As part of the Rhino Fertility Project at the University of Oxford, she focused on the conservation of endangered species through artificial reproductive techniques.
